Vitamin C: More Than Just Immune Support

Welcome back to Your Wellness Wednesday!

Most people know that Vitamin C is a powerhouse for the immune system, but this water-soluble nutrient does so much more. Since your body cannot produce or store it, getting enough through diet and quality supplements is essential for your overall health and quality of life.

Here is a look at what this vital nutrient does for you:

The Wide-Ranging Benefits of Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an extremely powerful antioxidant that is involved in countless bodily functions, including:

  • Immunity: Significantly boosts your immune system by increasing white blood cell count.

  • Heart Health: Supports healthy blood pressure, increases HDL ("good") cholesterol, and lowers triglycerides.

  • Skin & Healing: Aids directly in collagen synthesis (essential for firm skin) and dramatically speeds up wound healing and reduces bruising.

  • Anti-Inflammatory Action: Helps fight inflammation, regenerates other vital antioxidants (like Vitamin E and glutathione), and supports gum health.

If you notice symptoms like fatigue, easy bruising, slow healing, or dry skin, it could be a sign you need more Vitamin C.

Getting Your Daily Dose

The recommended dosage for Vitamin C is generally between 1,000 to 5,000 mg per day. Because it's water-soluble and quickly flushed out, just like your B Vitamins, I recommend taking it twice a day in divided doses for maximum benefit.

You can find high concentrations in foods like red chili peppers, guavas, bell peppers, kale, and broccoli

A Note on Supplements: Always be mindful of where you source your supplements to assure they are of the highest quality and bioavailability. If you are prone to kidney stones or gout, please avoid supplementing with Vitamin C.

Wellness Wednesday: Let's Rethink the 10,000 Step Rule November 5, 2025 You've probably heard (or even obsessed over!) the 10,000 steps a day philosophy. But have you ever wondered where that number came from? Here’s a little history: The concept originated in Japan around the time of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, as fitness awareness grew. A company began selling a pedometer named Manpo-kei, which literally translates to "10,000 steps." It was a great marketing tool, and the idea quickly caught on globally. My Step-by-Step Approach to Movement Here’s the good news: You are not failing if you don't hit 10,000 steps! Recent science shows that you can gain significant health benefits without reaching that original marketing goal. A study this year in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found that walking just shy of 4,000 steps a day (around 2 miles) can significantly reduce your risk of dying from any cause. Wow! The real key? You were born to move. Instead of striving for an overwhelming number, let's embrace "exercise snacks" —small, doable bursts of movement throughout your day. 1,000 steps takes about 10 minutes. The goal of 4,000 steps takes about 40 minutes of total walking. You can easily break this up: Maybe 10 minutes in the morning, 10 minutes before lunch, and 20 minutes after dinner. It adds up! Do what you can today, and strive for incremental improvements tomorrow. Ready to find other sustainable strategies that fit your lifestyle? Why Vitamin D3 and K2 Are the Ultimate Power Couple
By LISA WISE September 24, 2025
Your Weekly Wellness Wednesday September 23, 2025 Have you ever wondered why some vitamins need to be taken with food, while others don't? Today, let's talk about the key difference between fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins, and why understanding this is so important for your health. Vitamins, which are essential for your growth and nutrition, fall into two main categories: Fat-Soluble Vitamins These vitamins—A, D, E, and K—are stored in your body, sometimes for long periods. Because of this, they should always be taken with food to ensure proper absorption. While they're crucial for your health, taking too much can lead to toxicity, so it's important to be mindful of your intake. Water-Soluble Vitamins These vitamins, which include your B-complex and Vitamin C, are not stored in the body. Instead, they are flushed out through urination on the same day you ingest them. This is why it's often a good idea to take water-soluble vitamins twice a day to get the maximum benefit, as your body uses them quickly. A Wiser Approach to Supplements When it comes to your health, quality matters. The effectiveness of any supplement depends on its form, purity, and bioavailability —which is your body's ability to actually use it. We'll dive into this more in future newsletters. In the meantime, you can explore the high-quality, science-backed supplements I personally recommend. I’ve carefully vetted these products to ensure they meet the highest standards, so you can be confident that you’re getting the most from every dose. Wellness Wednesday
By LISA WISE September 3, 2025
September 3, 2025 For today’s Wellness Wednesday , I want to lead off with my very favorite, and in my opinion, one of the most important supplements for your optimal health and wellness - Magnesium . Magnesium is an essential mineral and is involved in over 600 different biological processes in your body. It also ensures that your body will be well balanced. It plays a key role in processes of the body including things like mental clarity and cognition, energy, sleep regulation, muscle contraction and relaxation, recovery from physical activity, maintaining healthy blood pressure, blood sugar and overall heart health, bone health, protein synthesis… And the list goes on. Magnesium has a natural calming effect, promotes relaxation and can assist you in getting a restful nights sleep. It also aids digestion and elimination. I’m sure most of you are familiar with Epsom salt or magnesium sulfate for relaxing and relieving sore muscles and tired, achy feet. There are actually 9 different forms of magnesium with the most bio-available or easily absorbed forms being magnesium glycinate (calming), malate (energy), citrate (constipation and digestion), and sulfate (sore muscles and cramps). Despite the importance of magnesium, many people are sorely deficient in this key mineral. You will want to make sure you’re using a superior, high quality source of magnesium to assure optimal absorption and utilization by your body. I highly recommend a Full-Spectrum Magnesium . You can check out all my recommendations for quality supplements - at my cost - on my website . You can always reach out to me for questions or more information.
